Today in America with Terry Bradshaw and Telemedicine

The producers of Today in America with Terry Bradshaw proudly announce the launch of a new series, Telemedicine and the Future, as part of their television program, Today in America with Terry Bradshaw (www.todayinamericatv.com). The show airs nationwide on many cable channels.
Telemedicine is the use of medical information exchanged from one site to another via electronic communications. It encompasses videoconferencing, transmission of still images, remote monitoring of vital signs, continuing medical education and nursing call centers.

Driven by health care trends and technological advances, telemedicine is growing into a mainstream industry. Government statistics estimate approximately one fifth of Americans live in places where primary care physicians are scarce. Telemedicine connects patients located in rural or underserved areas with doctors and specialists using leading-edge technology and communications connections. It allows patients to receive medical care without having to travel to a major medical facility, which sometimes, is hundreds of miles away. With telemedicine, a physician can evaluate, engage in conversation with, diagnose and treat specific patients using video and audio capability.

While not all health complications can be managed by telemedicine, this technology continues to provide hope to families who reside in the most rural settings of the United States. The Today in America Telemedicine and the Future series will explore the world of telemedicine and provide viewers with an inside look at the role telemedicine plays in the overall U.S. health care system.
